| CLICK PICTURES TO ENLARGE This is an AMT original issue 1961 Pontiac Tempest 4door sedan. This car was completely restored and painted in the factory color of Coronado Red. It has the Pontiac tri color interior. I added dog dish hubcaps and blackwall tires to show it as a base model car. These were unusual little cars. They came with the same rear transaxle as the Corvair, but the engine was up front. It could be ordered with two different versions of the 4 cylinder, or a Buick aluminum V8. It also had 15" tires which was unusual for a car of this size. With the engine in the front, and the rear transaxle, this little car had perfect weight distribution, giving it a smooth, stable ride. This first year Tempest went on to the Lemans, and later the GTO, but this is where it all started. Check out the rest of the pictures below. |
